Chicago Gets More Bayhem...In A Good Way!

So it seems that the week long visit to the city of Chicago by Bay and his crew has brung an unintended gift of increased traffic problems for an already overly congested city. http://chicagotribune.com/about-last-night. reports of a news conference held yesterday by the Office of Emergency Management and Communications about the TF3 shoot that is scheduled to run from July 10th to August 19th to tell people about the possible traffic problems the shoot will cause. But the really important part is the bit about how Bay will crap all over Nolan's stupid, yet fan crazy Dark Knight remake which was filmed in the same city just a few years ago.

OEMC Executive Director Jose Santiago said the closures on LaSalle Street (8 p.m. July 9 to 5 a.m. July 12), the Michigan Avenue bridge (8 p.m. July 16 to 5 a.m. July 19) and Upper Wacker Drive (9 p.m. July 18 to 5 a.m. July 22) will have the most impact on traffic. He added that most of the movie's filming in Chicago will take place during daylight.

“It's an ambitious production … but we and the producers are committed to mitigating the disruptions and addressing community concerns,” said Chicago Film Office Director Rich Moskal.

What can locals expect from bayhem — besides the usual traffic jams? Moskal said recently "some of the scenes they're planning to do could match if not exceed the strange stuff seen in Nolan's crazy remake of ‘The Dark Knight.”

These pics were apparently taken while were the cast and crew filming at the tilting office set at Playa Vista in LA. This specific scene had Shia, Rosie and military troops being chased by an evil Decepticon, who tips the building over. For this shot, one floor of an entire office building was built on a giant platform, which tilted at an angle while “tipped over."

TF3 Cars Now On Set! (Pix and Video Proof !)

A few months ago Bumblebee was rumored to have become a convertible due to a
change in design for the Chevy Camaro and now its Sideswipe's turn. In ROTF,
Sideswipe's alt mode was the Corvette Stingray Concept car. Corvette Blogger
then posted an image of a convertible version of the concept car spotted near
a Transformers 3 set that suggests that Sideswipe might get an upgrade.
Since the vehicle has yet to be released by Chevy, I am sure they wouldn't
mind the current model making an appearance in the movie. It's way too early
to say this is an accurate assumption as we don't even know if the character is
in the movie. This is a very sleek looking ride so it might be a welcome
alteration to the character. I assume this occurred at or near Playa-Vista in LA.
So the images above show Skids, Mudflap, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and the
Ferrari 458 Italia vehicle that Bay revealed would be an Autobot in the movie.

Above is a brief video that was filmed in downtown Los Angeles at 4th Street and Main and shows a red Ferrari 458 Italia, Bumblebee Camaro and the grey Stingray convertible driving away without its top on set. I sure hope he has more screen time than in ROTF. So it seems that the Chevy Corvette Centennial Convertible IS the new alt mode for Sideswipe in Transformers 3. Hmmmm...looks like someone gets into Bumblebee when those people run out of the building...Maybe Sam? I'm guessing that his office was just attacked. That would explain the moving office set piece from earlier this month! So this could be the building where he works or on closer observation it could be just a Hotel...anyways, something bad must have happened, therefore sending the staff running out and Autobots to rescue Sam...Yay!

TF3 Heads For Both Milwaukee and Detroit?

Transformers 3 will be packing its bags to head to Milwaukee, Wisconsin according to OnMilwaukee.com and http://milwaukee.bizjournals.com, TF3 production will bring 150 cast and crew to the Milwaukee Art Museum and and Tower Automotice site on July 12-13. No details on exactly what is being filmed or with what cast members.

A casting call will be held Saturday, June 26, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in the Wright Ballroom on the fourth floor. If you're a female or male "trendy executive type," 18 or over, you're invited to show up (with a pen, please).

"We're really excited to showcase the Art Museum in what will be one of the most anticipated blockbuster films for next summer," said Milwaukee Art Museum Director Dan Keegan.

"The film will give the venue worldwide exposure during our 10th year anniversary celebration of the Santiago Calatrava designed Quadracci Pavilion."

The Tower Automotive site on Capitol Drive will also be utilized, but don't bother showing up at either location. The sets are closed to the public and the museum will be closed to the public on July 12.

"We are thrilled that Milwaukee can host the cast and crew of 'Transformers 3' and we recognize the economic benefits and pride of place that blockbuster movies bring to Milwaukee and Wisconsin," said Dave Fantle, from VISIT Milwaukee and president of the Film Wisconsin board.

"Logistical planning for the film began last November, and the cooperation between the city, the county and the private sectors have been tremendous help."

UPDATE-- http://www.freep.com/article/20100622/ENT01/100622041/-Transformers-3-to-film-in-Detroit-in-August is reporting that Transformers returns to the Motor City once again in August. The franchise last visited Detroit, Michigan for ze first Transformers film, primarily at Michigan Central Station. Filming will be for two to three weeks but no specifics on locations that production will be using. Detroit now joins Bay's other visits. Maybe his next line-up will be...Kennedy Space Center?

TOY STORY 3 vs JONAH HEX!

It's the comic book bad ass VS the toy store terrors! The pugilistic plastic puppets VS the wicked waylaying westerner!! LET'S GET IT ON!!!

Toy Story 3 - Flashing forward 10 years or more, Andy is on his way to college, leaving Woody and his pals to one of two fates. The attic or donation to the local daycare center. In a twist of accidental fate, off the the daycare center they go where all seems like toy Eden..until the toddlers come!! PLASTIC CARNAGE!! I have to make a note that, ever since the second movie when they defined how much Woody, his horse and Jessie are worth, I twitch whenever I see them walking around on pavement..or dirt..or the air...much less being gnawed on by little drooling humans. This was true HORROR for me. Without giving away the plot, not all is what it seems at the daycare center, so the film turns into a caper movie with the toys trying to find their way home again. The only change this time around is the odd number of "evil" characters and the completely random and almost disturbing nature of some of the circumstances and scenes! This movie is so weird, I found myself half covering my eyes at times, not knowing what the hell I was watching. I can only imaging these scenes might scare kids a little!

The oddness of the story line didn't detract from my enjoyment one bit. The pace is swift and the comedy non-stop, with imagery so unexpected I found myself laughing harder as I shook my head in disbelief. This might be a little intense for smaller kids, but Toy Story 3 is every bit as fun as a Toy Story movie should be and doesn't disappoint one bit. The 3D, however, is inconsequential, so don't feel that you NEED to see the movie in this format for maximum enjoyment. Honestly, I don't recall anything coming at me, causing me to duck down in startled amazement. I even forgot we were watching in 3D about 10 minutes in. Get out to the movies this weekend and give Toy Story 3 the well deserved #1 spot, but leave the glasses behind.

Jonah Hex - Jonah Hex (Brolin) is a man haunted by the death of his wife and child at the hands of the insidious Quentin Turnbull (Malkovich). Scarred horribly by Turnbull and left for dead, Hex is saved by friendly Native Americans who yank him back, inches from the here after and thus, changed by having seen the other side. Now, Hex can communicate with the dead with a touch and roams the dusty trails as an outlaw bounty hunter with a taste for a prostitute named Lilah (Fox) and a scar across his mug you’d never forget.

The rest of this tale is either irrelevant or makes no sense. Hex believes Turnbull to be dead, which is reversed minutes later; a pointless plot fact since we all know Turnbull is the main bad guy before we even enter the theater. Hex’s “talking to the dead” gimmick stands as the only pleasing effect in the whole film but things revealed during these moments, while pushing Hex toward the bad guy, seem forced and could have been easily replaced with some bar drunk pointing in the right direction…but what fun would that be?! The dialogue falls out of actors mouths with the pacing of a sub-par community theater performance, as if they were all told to sit down and watch Silverado before the shoot as their only reference. The result is agonizing with a series of peripheral characters standing around like civil war reenactors or those odd puppets in the Hall of Presidents, pitching their lines at main characters who seem to yawn back at them.

SPEAKING of acting! While watching Jonah Hex, you’d think the film was shot in a single week with actors given 2 days to read the script and cue cards to cover the rest. Brolin’s mangled mouth piece assures most of his lines are delivered through gritted teeth, rendered unintelligible. This makes his scenes with Megan Fox extra hysterical, as her delivery is extra mumbly with a sort of drawl, which isn’t to be confused with a southern drawl. She just drawn her words out and makes every word sound gnarly. It’s not sexy. John Malkovich slow walks from scene to scene with the intensity of someone performing a task they were talked into by a cousin who nagged them for a solid year. I’d swear he doesn’t change his facial expression even once and delivers his lines with a softness you reserve for ordering desert after a pleasing meal. This leaves Michael Fassbender as the maniacal, heavily tattoo’d Burke who dances through every scene and twirls a giant knife as if he studied the art since childhood. Fassbender seems the only person behaving as if he’s in a crazy, comic adapted western with super natural overtones and comes off more like a Robocop nemesis than cohort to Turnbull, who is most likely sleeping somewhere behind him. Special mentions should be given to Wes Bently and Will Arnett who are so miscast and odd, even with the small roles given, that they may as well be in a Saturday Night Live skit spoofing the movie. Finally, a tip of my hat to Tom Wopat (yes, that Duke boy) who acts his ass off despite the stupidity happening around him and succeeds in proving he deserves more movie roles.

80 minutes feel like 2 hours as this dull fantasy rolls along with lame, unlikely action, horrible writing and zero atmosphere. If you consider a red tinted “dream sequence” that replays throughout the film as cutting edge cinematography, then I suggest you partake in any one of a number of the SyFy channel’s “original” movies and save some cash. When I saw the names Neveldine and Taylor come up in the credits as screen writers I nearly yelled LIAR!! This complete mess of a film could not be the work of the guys who brought us the Crank films and Gamer. Jonah Hex lacks the quirkiness and risk taking that is the backbone of those films. Jonah Hex has to be a hack job and after cutting the meat to ribbons in an attempt to form a coherent story line, we are left with 80 minutes of sweaty boredom, laughable action gimmicks and an “ultimate weapon” that will remind the more geeky among us of the Dragon Balls from Dragon Ball Z. They, too, make no sense.

TF3 Brings Economic Boost To Chicago's Magnificent Mile!

Collecticon.org recently reported that Transformers 3 production will close Chicago's Magnificent Mile for three days (after business hours) as they film footage in the area. The site had also previously reported the productions intention of using the area for this film.

Chicago’s Michigan Avenue, also known as “The Magnificent Mile”, will be closed to foot and vehicular traffic on July 15th at 8 PM through July 19th at 5 AM for commencement of filming for Transformers 3. There will be lots of explosions and crashing cars during this time. The general public will not be allowed to enter the area directly surrounding Michigan Avenue and the filming is expected to be intense. Businesses along Michigan Avenue are currently receiving information regarding the filming schedule. This will in effect close down the busiest shopping district in Chicago for 3 & 1/2 full days! Security is expected to be very tight.

UPDATE-- A recent article from the Chicago Sun Times discusses Transformers 3 impending invasion of the city starting from July 10th to August 19th. According to the article, the six week shoot is expected to "pump $20 million into the local economy and create 200 jobs, including 10 internships for inner-city students."

“You’re gonna see a little bit of mayhem. You know, I mean it wouldn’t be ‘Transformers’ without it,” Di Bonaventura said. “Hopefully, it’ll be fun. What we find is, people really end up enjoying the spectacle of what we’re doing.”

[Mayor] Daley said a certain degree of mayhem is fine with him so long as “safety comes first. . . . They’re very conscious of that. You don’t want to say where you can go, where you can’t go. They replace everything. They don’t destroy buildings,” he said. “This is all about creativity. They have to figure out their audiences. . . . Younger people are attached to this.”

Seventeen-year-old Montel Williams certainly is. A student at North Lawndale College Prep, he’s one of the film-loving Chicago Public School students lucky enough to be hired as an intern for the filming. “I have a passion for film. It’s in my heart deeply. . . . I’m ready for hands-on,” Williams said. “This is my career. I’m looking for anything out there that’s gonna benefit me and my career.”

Spielburg's "Real Steel" Gets An Odd Go!

These pictures of rather odd robots are from Ain't It Cool News. The pic(s) are reported to have been taken from the Chicago set for Steven Spielburg's next film "Real Steel" with Hugh Jackman. the above robot is called "Bruiser". But the name is likely a placeholder and of course CGI will add some life to the prop.

For reasons I can't nail down, that robot makes me think "Frankenstein's monster". This in turns makes me think that maybe a plot element is an attempt by humans to re-create robotic technology but that is just speculation on my part.

The movie is comes out November 18th, 2011 and "tells the story of a father and his estranged 11-year-old son who enter the world of robotic boxing. You see, in the future, human boxing has been outlawed, replaced with sports combat between human-trained 2000-pound heavy steel robots."

Mark Ryan TF3 Interview!

TFW2005.com has just posted their interview with Transformers voice actor Mark Ryan. He is the voice of Bumblebee and Jetfire for the movies and usually does voices of the Transformers on set with the actors to help with timing of the "human" lines as usually the formal voice over recording for the Transformers is done later. In the interview he talks about how got hired, working on the films and voicing the characters. Below is a section that specifically is about Transformers 3, the rest of the interview is here.

TFW: Can you tell us anything about what's happening with TF3? What do you see yourself doing in Transformers 3? Will you be continuing as the on-set voice? What would you like to be doing?
Ryan: I am back onset and doing the voices again. There are several new robots, which I’ve played during filming but I can’t give details for obvious reasons. I do feel the storyline for TF3 is the most intriguing one in the series, so far. It’s an area I’m personally very interested in and find the history fascinating. Anyone who’s read The Pilgrim will know about these associated subjects. Having spent a part of my life in the military and in the more esoteric areas of intelligence work myself, I find the back-story for this one to be really cool. Also, the cast is just amazing! I’ve already worked with Frances McDormand and I was blown away with her good humor and down-to-earth approach to the size and scope of the project. Obviously working with both Shia and Josh is always a real honor and joy and I must give a shout-out to Harry Humphries and his Navy SEALS, who really bring the heat.
